Ariens snowblower axle lock pin

I always used to have both wheels pinned but the left wheel has stopped spinning. In all the research I've done, people talk about pins in the rim of the wheel, which I do not see. I removed the wheel and found a 2inch by quarter inch pin that had a bit of corrosuion on it. I cleaned it off put it back in the notch in the axle and put the wheel back on over it. I then spun the right wheel and the left wheel would spin with it.

I thought I had the problem fixed but after 15 minutes of use I noticed the left wheel was spinning freely again. Any suggesstions what to do? Should be something like xxx or xxx. One on right and one on the left. The one on the left is your main drive, it locks your wheel to your axle which drives your blower. You can pin your left axle if you wish ,to allow for both wheels to turn. That pin must be in place all the time to drive your blower, Make sure that pin is not broke.

Make sure your LEFT wheel is pined too. Check and see if it is. Also check if it is not rusted to your axle. I had a problem with mine like that. Mine was so rusted I thought the pin was in. Those pins are sheer pins and will brake, Post your serial I can help you better that way This message was modified Apr 28, by bus Those pins are sheer pins and will brake, Post your serial I can help you better that way.

Before you adjust the cable it is easier to do if you take off the cover and look as it is attached to a spring and hard to tell when the slack is out. It is pretty obvious how it works.

Mine was more than adjustment it needed to be cleaned and lubed. Careful not to get cleaning or lube down in. It works like a pen.

They call it a clicker. Adjustment can not be too loose or too tight it's kind of fussy. The other thing is that it helps to wiggle the machine back and forth at the top of the throw.

Ariens snowblower, no power to left wheel. Thread Tools.

ariens snowblower axle lock pin

I have a problem, I have an Ariens 28in deluxe snowblower modelit is a year old and is the one that has what looks like a bike brake lever under the throttle cable to lockout one wheel to make it easy to turn, the left wheel has no power. It is like the turning mode is engaged all the time, the right wheel drives and has plenty of power, but the machine is behaving like it is one wheel drive.

I started troubleshooting by making sure all the cables where properly adjusted. I then pulled the bottom inspection plate, the lockout mechanism appeared to be working properly and would engage and disengage when I squeezed the lever. It looks like it should work View Public Profile. Find all posts by Jonathon.

Looking forward over the handlebars, the left wheel is always powered. It's easy to maneuver the machine when the right wheel is unlocked.

Easy locking Ariens snow blower axle

The lynch pin normally sits in the outer hole to hold the wheel on the axle. The problem is how to re-lock that wheel to the axle for extra traction. You need to pull the pin from the outer hole and pass it through the holes in the wheel hub and axle. But the freely turning wheel has two degrees of freedom: in and out along the axle, and rotating on the axle. So it can be hard to align the holes to pass the pin through, especially while standing in lumpy dense snow! My solution is to keep the wheel in a fixed position along the axle with all the holes in the same plane.

I experimented to add the right washer thickness, and added a short pin to hold it all in place. Now I can easily push and pull the handlebar, in an arc centered on the other wheel, until the holes align. Then the lock pin drops easily into place.

Flip the ring over the hub to hold it in place and you're ready to go. For storage, I clip the ring to the handlebar. A 14 gauge "machine bushing" washer was the right thickness to add on this machine. I since learned of universal pins pre-drilled in several places; just cut to length.

Assembled with a cotter pin. The lynch pin drops easily into place. Comment 0 Likes. Please contact your local landscape professional if you have additional concerns or need assistance with your clean up.

Leaves, sticks, dead grass, and compost materials all build up throughout the cold months. While these build up, the grass below the debris will decompose creating patches in your lawn. As a result, this creates an ideal environment for fungus, insects, and bacteria.

To get rid of the debris, you can either use a compost heap, check the local trash collection service for yard debris pickup, or get in touch with your local municipality for yard waste disposal and composting options. Trim your flower shrubs, plants, and bushes and clean up any unwanted debris in your garden and rake any fallen leaves.

Any trees and shrubs should also be trimmed. Do you have winter damage to your flower beds? Make any repairs during your spring yard cleanup time to make sure they will last through the whole season. Raking the lawn once the ground has dried from winter snow or storms helps with identifying spots in your lawn. Spring raking provides extra help with gathering fall leaves and grass that did not survive the winter.

Raking also loosens matted grass, which helps promote new growth. Early Spring is an ideal time for applying eco-friendly alternatives to chemical fertilizers, such as mulching or natural compost. These two alternatives are great ways to help return nutrients back into your landscape and help thicken your grass. There are also chemical-free alternatives to standard herbicides such as vinegar and essential oils.

Thatching, seeding, and cutting your lawn at a higher level are other surefire ways to help minimize weeds.

Once the snow melts or your lawn dries out, it is time to examine your lawn and find thin and bare patches that need repair.

Add compost to these areas before adding grass seed to promote growth. Good seed-to-soil contact will allow the seeds to grow quicker. The best type of tool is a sharp spade or shovel for cutting and digging.

Then use a rake to smooth the area out to ensure there are no big clumps. Use your rake to spread the seeds into the topsoil. Straw should be used to cover the seeds to hold in moisture and act as extra protection from birds. Sometimes thin or bare spots are a result of fungi, animals, bugs, or bacteria.

Check your lawn care essentials that have been sitting around throughout the cold seasons. If you have winterized your sprinkler system to prevent it from bursting during winter, now is the time to get it ready for the warmer months ahead.

Ariens Snowblower Pins

The manual says you can "move the pin from the hub to the axle shaft to allow the right wheel to turn freely". Okay, I'm an idiot. When I take the wheel off completely, there are two holes in the shaft axle? I've tried the pin in both holes, but sill have to wrestle to get the right wheel to free-wheel on a turn. Which hole is the hub and which hole is the axle? They are both on a single shaft
